Sorting playlist by date, where does VLC get this info from? How to fix it not showing up

Hi, I have my VLC opening a folder of 600+ songs and I have that saved as a playlist, works pretty well. I notice there is a possible "Date" meta field to sort by, but all my files have no date so they cant be sorted like this. Is there a way to get VLC to detect the file created/modified dates and sort by that? The finder recognizes the dates so I'd think its possible for VLC to. I am on mac 10.9 and VLC 3.0.16, and I can't upgrade my system. Thanks

Regrettably, VLC currently does not evaluate those dates displayed in the finder. However, this will come in version 4 later on.

So when is this arrangement/list tool coming? I disordered by mistake and can not go back. "Arrange as added (by date)..." should be a standard feature!
