Problems with vlc on MacBook Pro 2021, M1 chip, Monterey OS

Recently I purchased a MacBook Pro 2021, Monterey 12.0.1, M1 chip. It is my first Mac.
Downloaded the last version of VLC, vlc-3.0.16 version.

All three .dmg files (intel, arm, general binary) have been tried. The installation shows no errors. VLC operates with music from the harddisk. However, none of these three installed .dmg files permits to add more then one radio station represented by a url-address. A second radio station replaces the first one if executed in Playlist with url-address. I can't insert a station in Icecast Radio Directory.

If I look for the installation than no VLC-files or VLC-directories are found where these should be stored: \Library\Preferences, \Library\Application Support and \Library\Saved Application State. The option preferences is found in the menu when VLC is launched. But changes in Preferences are not executed.

The interface is very simple but nothing can be changed. Only pop-up menus with play, delete, select file, etc are visible.

Probably I do something wrong. Has it to do with the installation of VLC? Download additional software? Should url-address of radio station be given in a list or file? What is its format and where is this file stored? Or does my Mac block a part of the installation ?.

Is there anyone who can help or make suggestions?
Thanks a lot

Hello,

Did you copy VLC to your /Applications folder so it persists?

You cannot change the Icecast radio directory as this is a read-only online service and you can only play one radio at a given item. However, the playlist will list multiple stations to choose from.

With the current version of VLC, there is are only limited ways to retain radio stations. Through the File menu, you can save the playlist and re-load for later use. Alternatively, drag the station to the "Media Library" section to store it. This will be greatly extended in VLC version 4 next year.

For the interface adaption, see the View menu for available options, which are different compared to VLC on Windows or Linux.

Thank you, fkuehne. You solved my problem !

It is my first MacBook and I was not aware of the relation between the named application and the functions in the topbar. These functions refer to the opened application of that moment. Your text....

......."Through the File menu, you can save the playlist and re-load for later use. Alternatively, drag the station to the "Media Library" section to store it"......

.....points me to this.
Indeed, a playlist has written now with a number of radio stations I like. As I expected, VLC finds and plays them well.
The interface adaption is indeed different from Linux and Windows.I am trying out .

I look forward to VLC version 4 next year!
Greetings from rven.
