5.1 Center channel is being sent to my Left Surround speaker

I am having a problem with 5.1 sound in VLC.

The Setup:

2012 Macbook Pro (10.15.7) plugged into a Denon S650H AV Receiver via Mini Displayport to HDMI cable. VLC is running the latest version (3.0.16), and the computer is fully up to date. In the past, plugging in my laptop this way gave me flawless 5.1 sound but now something weird is happening.

The Problem:

When I play a file with 5.1 sound in VLC, my Center channel is being sent to my Left Surround speaker.

Digonising:

I have checked that the speakers are wired correctly. I have configured the setup for 5.1 sound through Audio Midi Setup and run the tone test and all the channels are being sent to the correct speakers. If I run the following test (https://archive.org/details/5.1AudioSpeakerTest) inside my browser the test works and all the channels are being sent to the correct speakers. However, when I download the file and play it in VLC, all of the channels are sent to the correct speaker EXCEPT the center. I have checked multiple video files and VLC always sends Center to Left Surround. If I play a file with stereo mix, playback works fine. If I plug in my PC Desktop to the receiver, I do not run into this problem.

Does anyone know why this is happening and how to fix it? Thanks.
