Play/Next files while VLC is in the Background

Postby iumjc95 » 30 Aug 2021 18:10

Hello

Im in the following situation: I have a playlist with 10 video files wich i have to play in a sequence (from 1 to 10) at a specific time. The videos will be projected with a beamer (hdmi). To know when the videos must be played i have to follow a chart on the same screen that displays the videos. So far this is all good, my problems start when i have the chart in the foreground (i swap desktops for that: the chart is on fullscreen mode) because then i am not able to play the videos anymore with the vlc key combinations.

I assume there is no (was there ever on mac?) such thing anymore as GLOBAL hot keys... My research so far pointed me to a solution via applescript. Does this make sense in that situation? I need to be able to play (cmd & left arrow) files without having vlc on focus but also without having applescripts in focus, my focus will be on a additional desktop with a chart in full screen mode.

Ideas for a solution are very much appreciated! And i have to add, i never used applescripts, so im a total noob. If applescripts would still be the solution to my problem i would very much appreciate if somebody could help me out with that. Or maybe there is even a readymade solution for that use case? I basically only need one command to play the next file.

Thanks so much for your help!
Steve
