Disable media keys

OS:
MacOS 11.4
VLC:
3.0.16 Vetinari (Intel 64bit)
1. How can I uncheck
Control playback with media keys since it it is 'grayed out' / not clickable ?
2. Using
Show all in the settings menu,
does give me the option to disable media keys, but when I uncheck and save, the media keys are still active. Also, when I look some time later, the box is magically checked again??

Hello,
We decided to no-longer allow this option to be disabled because the buttons are handled by the native system integration now instead of a hack that we used for the last 10 years (on macOS 10.12.2 and later, on older releases we still use the hack).
The reason why we decided to drop the option is that you cannot disable this feature for Spotify, Apple Music and QuickTime either - and that the OS is even capable of controlling multiple players without conflicts at once now.
What I wonder: why do you want to disable it?
Thanks!

That's a clear explanation. I want to disable it because I want to control Spotify (next track, etc.) while watching a video via VLC that has no background music.

Thanks for your (uncommon, but interesting!) use-case. We will re-enable this option for the new implementation in the next update.

I see that it is fixed (on MacOS). Thanks. Topic can be closed.
