Continue Playback not working on Mac

Is there a knack to making "Continue Playback" work? I've tried "Ask" and "Always" and neither works. If I open a mounted disc then it never works and always starts at the very beginning of the disc, no matter what the setting. If I open a file and set the option to "Always" then it starts from the very beginning. If I set the option to "Ask" then it asks me what I want to do, but whichever option I choose (restart or continue) it starts playing from the very start.

There are reports of this over on the Windows forum and the solution might be to tell the playlist to remember recently played items, but I can't find an option in the Mac version that looks anything like that.

This was a problem in 3.012 and I've just updated to 3.014 and the problem still persists.

I've tried re-setting preferences and it makes no difference.
