youtube won't load in VLC on Mac

At the moment i can't download or stream youtube movies with vlc.
I did read all the LUA solutions but they where for windows. So i can't do that.

I use the latest version of VLC for Mac.
And i work on this:

Mac os Catalina
10.15.7
MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2015)
2,5 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7

Who can point me in the right direction?

I did switch off the firewall. That did not help.

when i put an adres in the "open Network" field it looks like the stream is loading.... but nothing happens

Any tip is welcome.

I'm having the same problem. Enter the URL, hit open, it goes in the list then changes to something else and then disappears, all in couple seconds.

When I go back to enter the URL again, it's still in the entry field.

Same result whether I grab the address of the address bar of the browser or the 'copy link' spot from the YouTube share menu.

Any ideas?

Uninstalling the software and reinstalling it solved the problem for me.

I think i found the solution!

Go to program preference --> Reset everything!
After resetting vlc will start again and ask: "Checking for album cover and metadata?"
Than you must say: "No Thanks"

than problem is solved.

Hope that will help.

btw i use app cleaner to delete VLC first and installed again.

None of the solutions above worked. I still can't play YouTube streams (macOS 10.7) but I could a month ago.
