VLC not playing or converting asf format

I'm trying to play the audio asf files found at this site in order to learn Finnish: https://yle.fi/moodle/yle/attempt.php?q=2207

I cannot get VLC player on my mac to do anything with this file. I'm running osx Big Sur and have VLC 3.0.12

Works for me after downloading the file and renaming it to .ASX.
It doesn't work from the Open Network Stream menu because VLC can't parse the PHP page which is dynamically generating the ASX file.
I'm not using a Mac though.
