How to watch video while UDP streaming?

I setup a UDP stream to watch movies with others, but on the computer I setup the stream on I'm unable to watch the movie because VLC doesn't open the movie, it just displays the runtime of the movie. If I try opening the UDP address on the same computer on VLC, it interrupts and stops the stream.

How is it possible for me to setup the UDP stream on VLC and watch it on the same computer at the same time (while keeping the UDP stream running, so others can watch too)?
