Lagging cue response

Postby MagnumX » 03 Oct 2020 17:47

For the past year or two (I'm not sure the exact version at this point), the controls on VLC for the Mac have become extremely laggy here on my 2012 Mac-Mini Quad-Core i7 Mac with 16GB of RAM with a 2TB SSD drive running 10.14.6 Mojave. I used to be able to grab the cue bar (or whatever it's called that you can drag to a different spot in a movie/video) and it would instantly move to that part of the video so I could quickly find whatever point I was looking for by looking at the video. But now if I drag it, it will not start playing the video for that point for about 2 seconds and then the controls won't even respond for a few more seconds to even try and move it again, etc. It's almost impossible to use VLC to locate a point in a video to reference or view again for whatever reason. I don't have this problem with other viewers, only VLC and it started with one of the major new versions perhaps around two years ago give or take. I thought it would eventually be fixed, but it's just as bad or worse now than then. Videos play fine. I just can't move around in the video quickly at all anymore.

Did something change a couple of years ago to make the controls slower or could there be a corrupt file somewhere or something? Deleting it and re-installing makes no difference. Or is this likely a problem with my older Mac somehow and changes in VLC have simply made the cue control almost unusable here on an 8-year old computer?
