No sound + crash when jump in pause

Hi,

I've encountered this bug with VLC Version 3.0.11 Vetinari (Intel 64bit) on macOS 10.15.6 (19G73)

When I read a .wav or .mp3 audio file (here an interview I recorded with my phone). I need to type informations and regularly pause, jumps forward or backwards (with the left/right arrow keys).
If I jump backward while the file is playing, I have no problem.
If I jump backward while in pause, VLC will play without sound. Then if I immediately jump forward it sometimes recovers and I can again jump backward. Sometimes it can also just freeze vlc and I have to force quit.

Has anyone encountered something similar ?
Is this a known bug ?

Thanks,

O.

I am having a similar problem. In addition to freezing/no sound when jumping from pause, I am also getting this issue when jumping while file is playing.

Running macOS Catalina 10.15.5, VLC version 3.0.11 Vetinari (Intel 64bit).

I've tried reinstalling VLC to no avail.

Hey everyone. I use macOS 10.14.6 and believe I have been running into the same issue. To reproduce:

  • Play an mp4
  • Pause
  • Navigate to anywhere else in the track (move the slider anywhere else)
  • Play (press play again) --> No sound, Sometimes crashes (requires Force Quit)
I was digging around on the VLC Bug Tracker and believe that this issue has been resolved/fixed for the next version of VLC. See ticket 24876 (https://trac.videolan.org/vlc/ticket/24876). However, this doesn't help current macOS users of 3.0.11. In truth, I do not know when or if 3.0.12 will be released as an update. I guess you can get this fixed if you download one of the nightly source code releases and compile VLC yourself. But I'm not skilled like that. I need DMGs.

So what am I doing now for playing music? I removed 3.0.11 from my computer, and downloaded the DMG for 3.0.10 (https://www.videolan.org/vlc/releases/3.0.10.html) and will be using older release: 3.0.10 until the next release of VLC.

Hope this helps! :D

This was a bug supposedly fixed in the 3.0.11 update - but it seems it wasn't fixed fully, as it still happens - but not as often. Ive only seen it once in about a week, before it was all the time.

Hi @hukxchen and thanks for the useful information. I checked with the last nightly build of the 3.0 version (https://artifacts.videolan.org/vlc-3.0/nightly-macos/) and the bug seems fixed so that's great news.

How to know when a bug fix will be released ? Where is the information on the release roadmap ?

Thanks,

O.
