VLC crashes after play/pause

After updating VLC (about 2 weeks ago), I'm experiencing crashes after pausing, and then playing a file. I've tried several different files, .m4v, .avi, but I've never had this problem before I updated VLC. I can't even quit VLC, I have to force quit.
Is it possible to downgrade to the former version of VLC?

The update did not fix this issue for me.
Mac OS 10.13.6, VLC 3.0.11.1 Vetinari (Intel 64bit)
Pausing or scrubbing video or clicking timeline to jump is extremely likely to cause a crash of VLC.
Others report the same for Vetinari

There is no known open bug related to play / pause, or any additional report, for exactly the version 3.0.11.1, as of now.
Please make sure you actually use that latest version, and if the issue still persist for you, we would be happy to get a crash report with additional Information, on how to reproduce, from you.

VLC connects to Chromecast and plays for around 2 minutes and then abruptly stops playing and disconnects. I have updated to the newest version of VLC and it still does exactly the same thing meaning it is unusable. The reason I bought a chrome cast was so I could play movies on my TV. Very disappointing.
However, it plays without incident on my Mac. Does anybody know why and how to get around it? I recall this happening previously but not every 2 minutes.

I have a miniMac running MacOS Sierra v. 10.12.6 and VLC media player v. 3.0.11.1 Vetinari. It is horrible in playing sound frequently going silent and sometimes crashing; thus, I use it only when necessary to do what AppleRot doesn't allow with iTunes, i.e., varying the speed of tunes to learn them as a musician. There has been no fix. I wonder if there is any adult supervision.

When scrubbing video or pausing & scrubbing, then playing again. VLC freezes on a frame & will no longer play. The controls do not function. You can move the play head, but no effect is evident.
The error says "input control fifo overflow, trashing type=2"
The app functions in that I can open menus & prefs, but I cannot open a new video.
The image below is the messages after closing the frozen 'Aliens' vid & trying to open it again. Nothing happens.
