I have this same exact issue on my Macbook Air:

I am playing the video from a SMB share on the network.

Me too guys. I'm watching my lessons in .webm format, but every time I pause the video for taking notes, when I start again the video, it is without audio.

same issue here - using a 2020 up-to-date Macbook Air
Also noted that when the sound is lost - the volume control key also stops working properly and freezes at 40% (not that there is any sound)

Happy to provide more details if needed

Me, too. Late 2009 iMac running macOS 10.13.6 (High Sierra), with latest security updates applied.

It's happened to me with mp4s, both in H.265/HEVC and H.264/AVC formats.

Let me know if you need more info from me.

Thank you!

Same problem here in v3.0.10, when pausing and unpausing H.265 video (haven't tried any other formats). Reverted back to v3.0.8 and issue is gone.

Hi, I am also experiencing this issue across multiple video formats. Also running Mac OS 10.13.6 and VLC 3.0.10

I find that sometimes it will resolve itself after a few moments (3-5 seconds of no audio, there is no lag if it resolves), sometimes the audio will cut completely and I will restart the program with no issues, but also sometimes after the audio cuts the program will freeze and the video will fragment and take on the image of windows that are temporarily open over top of the video window. When this last option happens I have to force quit VLC before reopening. The files will play fine and reopen to the correct time stamp even after these crashes. This has occurred with a wide variety of file formats.

Same here, but audio is lost even while the video is still playing. Sometimes after 20 minutes, sometimes after 10. I tried to set to 1.000 audio cache, but still having the problem.

Late 2009 iMac running macOS 10.13.6 (High Sierra), with latest security updates applied.

Thank you.

Me to.. i also have problem closing down VLC after this occurs. I can ONLY close it going to another program and use the force quit option.. if I try to do it with VLC open, it will not close.

Same issue on MacOS 10.15.4

Audio drops after resuming from pause, and have to force quit VLC and restart.

I just updated to the latest version VLC 3.0.10 and I no longer have audio on any of my .mkv or .mp4’s; even ones that I had previously played with audio.

I have a MAC, OS X El Capital Version 10.11.6

I've try deleting and redownloading with the same issue. How can I go back to the previous version of VLC or if this is a problem with all MACs upgrade is there another version that will be released that will fix this bug?

Damn...some major bugs with this release no? Reverted back to 2.2 for stability. Have never had to downgrade VLC before.

Same. I'm on a Macbook Pro running Mojave 10.14.6.
When I then try to quit out of VLC, the video window cuts the picture and goes to black and moves to the bottom left of my computer screen. The only way to restart is to force quit the application. Reverting back to 3.0.8 for now.

Any news on the bug-fix for this ... very frustrating pausing, losing sound, force quit and then having to go through the whole re-booting process just to continue.

We are working on fixing this issue, unfortunately it's extremely hard to reproduce on our machines.

What would help a lot is if you can reproduce it with a VLC 3.x nightly and once it becomes unresponsive, Force-quit it and post a crashlog/spinlog which you should find in Console.app that might give us some clues whats going on.

Reverting back to 3.0.8 didn't help on my machine. It runs on Catalina 10.15.4. :?

I hope it will help.

I'm also seeing this behavior; is it just a VLC problem though?

----

Edit: I've been trying out one of the v4.0 betas and it doesn't seem to have the same issues - it's been running quite smoothly from pause.

Hi, we found a possible fix for this, it would be great if you could try this build of VLC and let me know if the problem still exists:

Seems to be working just fine, so far.

Sometimes, on software startup, there is a loud click/pop - I'm not sure if anyone else is having this issue or not?

Please dont hijack unrelated topics and just open a new one, its far more likely then that other users find your issue if they have the same problem and can comment on it.
