Lets Talk About Hotkeys

Hi guys,

I'm doing a project for an MA Degree and I've come up against a minor problem. Without going into lots of unnecessary detail, my basic question is this:

How do I get a particular keystroke to play a particular file on VLC?

Essentially, I will have a playlist of 10 videos and want to assign hotkeys to launch each specific video individually.

Can it be done?

I'm using a MacBook Pro :)

Not sure this is doable within VLC itself.

Easiest way might be to have an external program or script, listening for those hotkeys and start VLC as needed.

Thanks alot for your help dfuhrmann. Do you know where would be a good place to get some info on script writing for this?
