Stop VLC from renaming Media Library items?

This is a pic of my Media Library (note the station named Ancient FM):



Next, I start this station, VLC obtains information from the internet, and then renames this item accordingly to it:



Thus, my question is the following: is it possible to prevent VLC from doing this?

I tried to switch off this setting: Preferences -> Playlist -> Automatically preparse items. But it seems it's not related to my problem. I also tried to change the file permissions for the Media Library file (~/Library/Application Support/org.videolan.vlc/ml.xspf) and even the ownership. But VLC still manages to restore the default ones somehow (for the record, on Windows, setting the Read-only attribute to the very same file -- %APPDATA\vlc\ml.xspf -- does solve the problem).

So, what else can I try? What do you think? Would be grateful for any hint or suggestion

This name is set by the station itself and VLC will adhere to the information provided by the server as metadata. This cannot be overwritten at the moment.

But why does making the file read-only doesn't help? Why -- and, actually, how -- does VLC manage to restore the file ownership and the file permissions? I'd say that's looks like a thing that shouldn't really happen

I doubt that we manipulate the permissions on purpose. However, VLC on Mac runs with the same privileges you have as a user, so technically it's you giving back the write permissions.

Note that we are completely re-writing the media library for VLC 4, which will give you more options including permanently over-writing metadata.
