VLC keeps adding icons to the dock....

Everytime I open a video I get a new icon appearing in the dock on the bottom right on top of my icon in the left area of the dock... also every video opens in a new window... how can I stop this?

I am having this same issue. It is not a terrible problem, but it is really annoying. I do not want to have to keep closing out icons in the dock that continually propagate with each time I open a file. Please advise.

I may have not been accurate with this question....my issue is that every time I open a new file in VLC, I get a new icon in my dock. And it does not go away unless I go to click on the icon to remove it. I'd love to know how to solve this. It's a nuissance. I do like having the option of having the ability of having multiple instances of VLC open, but anytime I 'close' a new instance, the icon lingers in the dock.
