Can you try to launch from the command-line? Do you get an error message then? Also try launching on command-line with the "-vvvv" argument to receive more information.

If you need to use real-time priorities and/or privileged TCP ports
you can use /Applications/VLC.app/Contents/MacOS/VLC-wrapper (make sure it is Set-UID root and
cannot be run by non-trusted users first).

Well, as said by VLC itself in the logs you posted, you cannot run VLC as root. Please use a non-root account on command-line to run the app with the "-vvvv" argument so we can find out more why it fails.

Note that in case you enabled the "root" account as a regular user account which you use to control your Mac - this is a totally not supported scenario and VLC will not run.
