VLC for mac won't play mp4 file, ipad version plays it fine

VLC 3.0.8

This mp4 file plays fine on the ipad version (it's about 2.6 gbs, is that something I could upload to a place where you can check it?).

I already tried turning off hardware decoding on the mac (macbook pro, Mojave 10.14.6).
