v3.2.0 can't access home network

I am beginner. VLC seemed to do auto update on my ipad and i can no longer access my windows7 home network. Spent hours trying to fix it. Can anyone please give step by step instructions on how to access my windows 7 hard drive. This has worked on my ipad for years. I can't get it working with this update. Also, is there a way to stop these auto updates so that it doesn't happen again if i get it working. P.S. my ipad is quite old. Maybe original version (handmedown). Thanks
