VLC causing display issues?

I have no idea how to describe this, so I've uploaded a video to imgur: https://imgur.com/a/vyYGpuW
If this isn't allowed, please let me know and I'll remove the link.
This started a few weeks ago, and happens every time I try to play a file.
I'm on an Imac, late 2013 model, running Mojave version 10.14.6, Graphics Nvidia GeForce GT 755M 1 GB.
I can play all files with no issue with other programs (IINA, Quicktime).
Any idea what the issue might be?

Problem is being discussed already several times on this forum.
Unfortunately no solution (yet?).
