VLC 3.0.8 Self-Update

My understanding is that V3.0.8 patches some serious vulnerabilities, so why am I unable to receive a self-update? I have downloaded it for myself, but everybody needs it now. This isn’t the time for a business as usual metered update.

The in-app updater was enabled around 24 hours ago and works fine here. I'm not sure what your problem is precisely?

I became aware of the update, I believe from an announcement on social media either last weekend or early Monday the 19th. I tried for two days to self-update which failed, so updated it from MacUpdater late Tuesday night, posting the above the next day. All I know is that a few seconds before I accomplished the update, self-updating was still disabled, so I'll have to accept that it's currently enabled since I can no longer test that.

I guess my only remaining question is why wouldn't the in-app updater be enabled simultaneously with release for a security related update.

Because even for security updates, there can be regression affecting millions of users. For instance, 3.0.7 broke subtitles display for all users due to a calculation error in a security patch and it wasn't until 3.0.7.1 a few days later to fix this. Therefore, 3.0.7 was never available through the in-app updater. This is precisely the reason why we keep a reasonable delay between release on the website and the updater.

After the update, I was no longer able to use http://livego.club:8080/get.php?username=x&password=x&type=m3u&output=ts in my "Network" URL box.
It had worked successfully for many months giving me access to TV stations.
AND I have NO IDEA how I generated that particular URL! I am NOT very savvy and find the language on the wikis hard to follow. For instance, I cannot find the "Media" box that is often referred to as being top left in the menu line.
