Skiping a couple of seconds in the beginning of a track

Hi! I have a very annoying problem which tarnishes a bit the pleasure of using VLC which is otherwise perfect for my use.

I'm listening to audio books with VLC and what happens is the player skips a second or two in the beginning of each track. So I miss a phrase or a beginning of a phrase or a title of the chapter. This happens with various recordings from different providers.

I'd be sorry to know I'm asking something that I could find on my own, but I only find very old posts and I'm using the newest version. Anyway, if this is the case, please point me in the right direction.

What is the format of those audio books?

Mp3. The skipping happens when the player switches the tracks.

Weird. I think the new clock in 4.0 will help for those issues.

I could upload a couple of files if you like, but I think they are ordinary Mp3s.
I'm using VLC Version 3.0.6 Vetinari (Intel 64bit) on macOS Mojave 10.14.3 and I don't think I tampered with the default settings of the player.

The problem occurs in 100% cases for me 🤷‍♂️

Oh! I've just noticed something.
When I try to reproduce the described behaviour by starting a track and then jumping to the end (to let the player switch to the next track) – everything is fine! It appears that the problem occurs only with time and you have to play tracks in sequence. Well, that's my guess.

I am experiencing the same issue. It occurs for all MP3 audio files, e.g., MP3 44,1KHz, 32 bit, 256 kbps, and MP3 (mpga) 44.1KHz, 32 bit, 48 kbps. But FLAC seems to be working fine without any delay/skip at the beginning.

Can it be something wrong with some of the latest updates? I have listened to music using VLC for years, and never noticed this problem before.

In my case, auto switching to the next track (when the current tracks finishes) behaves the same way - 1 or 2 seconds are not played in the next track.

VLC: 3.0.7.1 Vetinari (Intel 64bit)
OS: macOS Mojave 10.14.5

Try unchecking "hardware decoding" in the Preferences under Input/Codecs (the basic settings).

I have a new 2019 MacBook Pro that is showing this problem with the latest VLC (3.0.11.1). After unchecking "hardware decoding" the 'skipping at the beginning' problem went away.

The same version works just fine on my 2013 MacBook Pro, with hardware decoding enabled. So there is some issue with the latest Mac hardware and VLC hardware decoding.
