Authenticating access to iMac when using Firestick

Apologies in advance for such a naive, newbie question.

I have successfully installed the VLC app on my new Amazon Firestick (plugged in to Samsung HDTV).

I am attempting to access media files on my iMac via the Firestick. The Firestick does detect the local network when browsing (ie, does identify my iMac).

However, in order to authenticate, VLC asks for both "logon" and "password". What should I enter? iMac password and Apple ID do not seem to work for password.

Many thanks,
New to VLC

You need to enter the username and password of your local account. Additionally, file sharing needs to be enabled on your Mac.

Hi,

I believe I´ve checked the appropriate Sharing preferences File sharing box is ticked in System Preferences. VLC still requests "login" and "password".

By "username", do you mean the Apple ID?

Should "password" be the Apple ID password, the password for the iMac, or another

Thanks!

Hey you probably already figured this out years ago - but in case anyone else needs help cracking the code - all you need to do after enabling file sharing within the file sharing tab in system preferences - you gotta click the options button and check the button to turn on the windows file sharing through SMB for your account.

You'll still need to login to your account on the VLC on the fire stick using your username & password for your computer - not your apple id.

Everything should be smooth sailing after that. Cheers!
