VLC Web Plugin - older version (1.0.x +)

Postby kapqa » 01 Dec 2018 16:07

Hello ,

can someone please help to provide an older version of the VLC Webplugin?

I tried newer version 2.2.7 and it is buggy.

Would like to use it on Firefox 45 and 52 ESR in 32bit mode to see if it would pick-up subtitle stream from Youtube.

Thank you very much!

well, i found some older web plugins here on sourceforge
https://sourceforge.net/projects/vlc/files/

i tried version 1.0.5 for intel (tried with 32bit and 64bit by enabling 32bit in Firefox via "get info" on program) and version 2.2.1 and 2.2.7 ,

version 1.0.5 does show up in plugins, but does get recognized by the script i use (viewtube)
version 2.2.1 and 2.2.7 do work, but stop playback whenever i would try to fast forward or rewind playback.

unfortunately, it seems with vlc web plugin on macos the subtitles are not being loaded by default.

hope this can be implemented in a future version.

Sorry, we will no longer maintain the web plugin because support for the NPAPI interface was removed from all current web browsers. Version 3.0.4 will remain the last version: http://get.videolan.org/vlc/3.0.4/macos ... -3.0.4.dmg

Hi, unfortunately the .dmg seems to be corrupted. I had several different attempts repairing or open it in different software, but had no success. I would really like to use this version of the web plugin.

Thanks for the help! :)

EDIT: I know what's the problem  The .dmg is in APFS and not HFS+ Format and since I'm on OS X 10.11 the filesystem is not recognized. Unfortunately also 7zip under Windows, which used to open .dmg just fine, seems to be unable to handle the new FS.
Well, I don't know if APFS was chosen on purpose for the dmg, but if it was, I don't understand this decision, since HFS+ would be just fine for all Mac OS. :( Also this is the first .dmg ever which I got into my hands that uses APFS instead of HFS+.

Ouch, that wasn't on purpose. I'll fix the DMG and update this thread once done.
