How to launch player by default WITHOUT the playlist window

Not sure with what build the change happened but now, whenever I open any media, the playlist always opens with it and the player controls are attached to the playlist. It's quite annoying because if I try to scrub through a video by dragging the playhead, the playlist window moves to the foreground and blocks the video.

It used to be that videos would open without the playlist automatically being displayed, and the player controls would appear on a transparent GUI over the video. Now I can only accomplish this view by going into full screen mode, which I don't always want to do.

Any ideas how to fix this?

VLC: Version 2.2.8 Weatherwax (Intel 64bit)
Mac OS: Sierra 10.12.6

Thanks!

YOu should be able to hide it in the view menu.

I'm not seeing that in the View menu:

to hide the playlist: Window -> Playlist

also under video preferences, uncheck "Show video within the main window" and check "Window decorations". then the playhead will always be seen at the bottom of the video.

Thanks Snix!

I didn't see "Show video within the main window" as an option, but after checking "Window decorations" and then relaunching the player, it's back to normal.

I disabled the "Show video within the main window" as an option, "Window decorations" checked.
VLC player still always launched by default WITH the playlist window.
