VLC 3.0.x problem with multichannel audio-adapters

Postby phel » 31 Mar 2018 12:42

The player flags a warning about incompatible/unconfigured audio-hardware every time playback starts when the Mac has a multi-channel connection to a mixing console:

Mixing console: Midas M32 / Behringer X32 connected via USB2 (32ch bi-directional)
Mac hardware: MacBook Pro 15" (2012)
MacOS: 10.13.4
Vlc: 3.0.1

Configuration done via Audio/MIDI-prefs on the Mac as instructed by VLC makes no difference. Speaker-prefs are set to use the first two channels for left and right in a regular stereo configuration. I have been using VLC 2.x for audio-playback in this setting with no problems. Audio works just fine so the warning/error can safely be ignored, but it is annoying to have the messages pop up all the time.

There are no messages from VLC if the same computer is connected to a regular 2ch USB/audio-interface.
