Hi all,

New to the forum and registered as I have a problem playing Blu-Rays:

I have, to the best of my knowledge and abilities followed the instructions here https://vlc-bluray.whoknowsmy.name/

aacs folder created and I tried to put AASC Dynamic Library here: -/lib/, here: -/lib/VLC/ (created VLC folder), and here: -/lib/VideoLAN (created VideoLAN folder). Nothing works and I still get the

"This Blu-ray requires a library for AACS decoding to play and your system does not have one"

What am I doing wrong here?

I'm on High Sierra 10.13.2.

I too am having the same problem. I've tried everything and nothing. I know for sure the disc works with vlc as I was able to get the fix to run on a older pc which I no longer use.

Got it to work:
Download the files as usual, however, follow THIS page in order to place the files in the RIGHT locations:

Guide: Rip and Play Blu-ray Movies with VLC on Mac

VLC official site claims that the 2.0 and later version support Blu-ray media playback with some extra operations. So please upgrade your VLC Media Player if you are still using the old version. If you haven't got VLC media player on your Mac, please visit http://www.videolan.org/vlc/ to download the latest version of VLC media player. Then just follow the steps below:

Step 1: Go to: http://vlc-bluray.whoknowsmy.name/, get the necessary files.

1. KEYS Database (KEYDB.cfg)

Put the KEYDB.cfg file into ~/Library/Preferences/aacs folder.

2.AACS Dynamic Library (libaacs.dylib for Mac)

Put the libaacs.dylib into the ~/lib directory folder. ~ refers to home directory. If the folder does not exist, create it manually.

Step 2: Insert your Blu-ray disc into the Blu-ray drive and run VLC.

Step 3: Click on Media and then click on Open Media option. In the popup, click on “Disk” and check “Blu-Ray” option then click on Play button. Now your Blu-ray movie will start playing in VLC.

I understand how to do all of this but the website from which you download the AACS and other things never loads.

Is http://vlc-bluray.whoknowsmy.name/ down?

Is there somewhere else I can go to download these things?

Edit: I am using a mac and trying to play a bluray on vlc.

Hi VLC!

I picked up my ASUS external Blu-Ray drive today and am having the same problems. It won't play, and the http://vlc-bluray.whoknowsmy.name/ will not load. I repeat bluraynoob's question: is this site down, and/or is there somewhere else I can obtain these extra files?

For the record, I have now downloaded and installed version 3.0.2 Vetinari from the VLC site, and am running all this on a MacBook, with OSX 10.13.4

Someone, please help!! I really wanna watch all the special features on my newly purchased and awesome Marvel Cinematic Universe Phase 1 and Phase 2 Blu-ray & DVD collections, and this is the only Blu-ray player in the house!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have to say, though, that this is a serious irritation, and it's not just because this is the second piece of hardware I have --please stay polite-- around with in the last few hours and not gotten it to work. I bought this external drive precisely so I could watch all these extras, instead of buying a simpler and MUCH CHEAPER CD/DVD external hard drive. I'm sure you can empathise with my frustration. Any and all help would be greatly, massively, eternally appreciated.

I was able to get the files and make some of my Blu-rays work, however there are audio issues (and I've found they're intermittent) and not all Blu-rays will work (which is a known problem). It's accurate to say that Blu-ray capability is in it's infancy (and possibly even on hold or abandoned for now) and whatever effort you spend trying to find a solution within vlc will ultimately just be met with frustration. I gave up. Note that my observations are Mac-based - I don't know about PCs and Blu-ray capability.

Hey nicolaidenmark! I followed your link and tried the instructions. They worked for the libaacs.dylib file, but I get a warning when I try to create the /.config folder that folders beginning with "." are reserved for the system. How did you get around this? Also, did you create this folder in your user home directory or the HDD home directory?

I'm using VLC Media Player 3.0.5 on a 2017 iMac with macOS 10.4.2 Mojave.

This is what worked for me;
I placed the KeyDB in ~/Library/Preferences/aacs/
For libaacs I had to right-click on VLC, choose "Show package contents" and put that file in Contents/MacOS/lib directory
