Outputing Dolby Digital or dts?

Postby Guest » 03 Nov 2005 22:55

I'm running OS X 10.4.3 on a 2X2.5 G5 running VLC 0.8.2. I have all the settings in the Sound preferences pane and in Audio Midi Setup set to use the optical out, but when I try to playback Dolby Digital 5.1 it outputs as Linear PCM. How can I output the DD or dts program material?

Thanks in advance.

Preferences->Coreaudio

Try

Preferences->Audio

with "Advanced" selected, then choose Coreaudio. When you play a movie you should have a full selection of output channels in the Audio menu, including Digital.

Let me know if it works, because I am giving up on analog audio. I regret buying the Logitech Z5300 (analogic) instead of the Z5500 (digital). Not that there's anything wrong with the hardware, mind you. If the digital out is also a problem, I wouldn't know what to do.
