Audio glitches with VLC 2.2.4

Hi there,

a strange phenomena occured on my system.
A few weeks ago I updated VLC to the current version 2.2.4.
Since then I hear strange audio glitches on audio files I've been knowing for ages.
At first I thought it's may be an issue with my external HDD.
So I copied some of the audio files to my internal SSD.
The same audio glitches occured.
Then I played back the very same files with another media player (Quicktime Player) and then another one (iTunes).
No glitches with either.
But with VLC glitches occur even when I play the audio through my external audio interface instead.

I am running OS X 10.9.5 and VLC 2.2.4.

Any advice appreciated since for me, there's no alternative to VLC because I play back many different file formats.

You probably experienced audio glitches with mp3 files. This is a known issue in VLC 2.2.4 and will be fixed with an update soon.

Hello! These audio glitches you speak of, is it like a popping or crackling sound?
I've also experienced this since updating to 2.2.4, some of my mp3 files will have these popping or cracking sounds, but other mp3 files sounds perfectly fine

If so, is this the known issue you speak of?

Yes, this is the exact feature we fixed for 2.2.5, which will hopefully be out shortly.

For meantime time, consider using a 2.2.5 nightly build from here: http://nightlies.videolan.org

Hi Felix,

How's that 2.2.5 release coming? :-)

Google led me here. I am having the exact same issue with audio glitches playing MP3s that were encoded from a rip of a commercially stamped CD. The rip and encode was handled by X Lossless Decoder on the Mac. The CD was ripped with CDParanoia III engine, the log showed no errors, and the same MP3s played fine in iTunes.

In this thread, someone else suggested downgrading to version 1.1.11. This resolved the issue. I also upgraded to the 2.2.5 nightly and the 3.0.0 nightly. Both of these versions are fine.

Can you explain what's wrong with 2.2.x playback and what's being fixed in the next release? Thanks.

Thanks Felix,

The 3.0.0 nightly build seems to have done the trick. I play a lot of FLAC and WAV files through VLC and the audio clipping has been driving me nuts for weeks.

Long time VLC user making my first donation after realizing how important your teams work is for my listening experience! Thank you.

Upgraded last month to 2.2.4 (from 2.1.5), discovered similarly audio distortion on mp3 files, both VBR and CBR. Confirmed that 2.2.5.1 resolve this issue. :) MacOS 10.12.5.
