Convert file with VNC - x265 / h.265 encoding

Postby ciacho » 07 Apr 2016 15:17

One of VLC 2.2.x Features is support for encoding in H.265, Opus and VP9, but when I try to select encoding codec, there is no h.265 to choose or even VP9. Do I have to add codec manually somehow?

It would appear to be missing from the user interface. For now you'll need to use the command line.
Providing logs, messages, configuration info (VLC, OS, Hardware) and a clear explanation of the issue always helps the problem solvers help you, even if they don't end up solving the issue. Just think what you would need if you were solving someone else's problem. Additional: Always looking for eager and capable MacOS X developers to join the VLC team - for more information see here.

Oh I see, thanks for answer.
Can you enlighten me how to use command line to convert file via VLC in OSX?
I'd like to change 1080p MOV file to 720p x265.

Command line worked for me with other codecs but h.265 give some errors i tried to change few options but still can't convert file. There is no need to rush for me, so I'll wait for GUI support. Thanks for opening a ticket. I will follow the progress. Thanks.

Got clarification from the devs that H.265 should be treated as experimental at this point, since it is "too early and slow to be suggested".

Thanks for info, maybe this is the reason why this experimental feature doesn't work even with command line :)
