VLC V2.2.1, no icon on desktop

Postby cwfell » 12 Jan 2016 22:05

Howdy!
First post..
My 'problem' with VLC V2.2.1 not creating a directory nor desktop/Dock icon (need to 'launch after install!)

Hardware/OS...I have a:
- MACBook PRO,
- Intel 2.5Ghz Core 7,
-16GB Memory,
- NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M 2048MB video.
- OS is OS X El Capitan V 10.11.2

Procedure:
- FRESH (never downloaded nor installed before) download V2.2.1
- Open/run the "dmg" file
- Unpack/install proceeds and completes successfully
- must then 'click' on the "dmg' file on the desktop then on the VLC app icon to 'run'/load/open the VLC viewer/player.

Attempted solution:
- create 'directory' called VLC
- locate the 'dmg' file in the 'download' directory
- open the 'dmg' file to 'view'
- copy files to VLC Directory created above
- NOW I can see and click on the VLC app.
- NOW i can create an 'app' alias... and place in Dock or Desktop or both.

Questions..
1-What process did I do incorrectly?
2-Why is there no 'directory' or Icon created for use of VLC?

Respectfully submitted....

I did another 'search'.. this time the following post from last summer popped up...
https://forum.videolan.org/viewtopic.ph ... on#p428492

My issue is similar in that I have to 'rerun' the dmg file... and it does not create the 'directory' or icon.

Since this is the same Version as the above post, does anyone know if this is an issue VLC intends to address/resolve?

VLC is a drag and drop install like many Mac applications. Opening the DMG does not automatically create or install anything. It simply mounts a disk just like if you opened a dvd or connected a hard drive. You then drag the VLC icon onto the provided Applications Folder alias or directly to the Applications folder window on your computer. Eject the disk image like you would any disk. Then go to the Applications folder where you copied VLC and run it from there / drag it to your dock / make an alias for your desktop. You shouldn't have any problems with it needing the original disk image if installed correctly.
