Playlist Window Won't Stop Covering Video

Hi There,
I've got a current mac mini (OSX: 10.10.4) running VLC 2.2.1 and I've setup the cpu to automatically open and fullscreen a VLC playlist upon startup. I have done this because the videos are meant to loop endlessly for public presentation. So, if the power goes out, I need it to start back up automatically without any human interaction.
The only problem I'm having is that the playlist window always opens and remains on top of (in front of) the video. The cpu starts up automatically, VLC opens and plays the videos fullscreen and looped automatically. But the playlist window is there on top of the video every time. I've tried many different settings and configurations. But I cannot find a setting to render the playlist window invisible or to make the playlist window appear in the background behind the video, where it won't be seen.
Can anyone tell me if there is a setting that I can use to correct this issue in VLC 2.2.1? Or is this unavoidable? Or does it sound like I've caused the problem myself with the way that I've setup the program?
Any input is appreciated.
-Thanks

Actually this should not happen. But as a workaround, please enable the checkbox to display the video inside the main window itself.

I'm having the exact same issue in a very similar setup even after checking 'display video inside main window.' Full screen works the first time, but each time after that is the playlist window blocking the full screen video behind it.
In addition, the --play-and-exit won't exit the VLC application unless I wiggle the mouse.
My setup is a Mac Mini model A1176 running 10.6.8. Using a .plist file and a shell script, the machine auto logs into a Presenter account, launches slideshows for 10 minutes, and then I have VLC play any videos that are contained in the Movies directory using this line in the script; /Applications/VLC.app/Contents/MacOS/VLC /Users/presenter/Movies --fullscreen --no-audio --play-and-exit
I've tried setting preferences through the GUI to default to full screen and then removing the --fullscreen from the line above but same exact results.
Ideas to resolve are welcome.

I'm having the same problem..
I have a playlist with a video, then a still for 5 sec, then a video then a still.
I am simply trying to get them to play in sequence, in full screen, hiding menu bars ("float on top" I think) - and it keeps putting the vlc main window in full screen over the video.
Using a Mac with 10.11.3, vlc 2.2.2, with native fullscreen mode selected.
Getting a tad frustrated with all this - I turned to vlc to do what used to be a simple task in quicktime player 7 - however it now just shows a black screen where I want to show the still image!!

OK - this is bizare.
I changed a number of preferences to do with video (fullscreen, float on top, skip frames) and interface (show vid in main window, resize interface, native fullscreen) and it started to work as expected!
P(to play a video, then 5 sec of still, another video, another 5 sec still - all in fullscreen, one after the other)
Now I have been changing them back one by one - and it still works as expected....
Will it still work tomorrow when I have to use it in anger??

This issue is a bit hard to pinpoint as we cannot reproduce. So if you are able to reliably reproduce it again, we would be glad to hear your configuration. In this case, we would also like to ask you to test a nightly build of VLC 3.0, where we believe the issue should be definitely fixed.
In general, using native fullscreen, and showing the video inside the main window, should never pop up any other window - because there is no other window involved.

Hello. I also have this problem, and I am using VLC in the same setting (OSX 10.11.3, VLC 2.2.2). When I changed all these configurations (open in fullscreen, show video in main window etc.) the playslist still covers the main window. I have tried all different combinations with the configurations above, but nothing helps. Is there anything else I can try?
