OSX Mavericks-- Videos refuse to show up, can't get out of playlist view.

Hey guys, I'm having a problem with VLC that suddenly started happening today. When playing a video, the sound of that video will play, but the video will not. It's not a blank or black screen, it just stays in the playlist view no matter what I do.

Example:

That's what happens when I open any video, the progress bar at the bottom advances and the sound plays, but no video.

This is what happens when I click Window > Playlist:

It's also worth noting that I don't have the option to full screen the video:

I've tried multiple videos and can confirm that they work on quicktime player, just not on VLC. I've used VLC in the past and never run into this issue. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the program, cleared all settings, and tried using a different monitor even, to no avail. Any help is greatly appreciated, thanks! Let me know if more information is needed ^^

Please mention OSX version and VLC version, and paste the log from VLC at pastebin.com (and give the link here). You can get the log by opening the messages panel, before you start playing the problematic file.

Then we can take a look what is going on.

The same issue here. No video, only audio is playing.
PLaying a .webm clip encoded with ffmpeg VP9 and audio in Vorbis Audio.

OS X 10.9.5 (Mavericks)
VLC 2.2.1

In the Firefox (40.0.3) browser the clip plays fine. Are there specific command lines for ffmpeg one should use to make it play in VLC player?

Thank you for your help,
