VLC player 2.2.1 lagging SD video

When I play SD videos (video_TS) from the hard drive with VLC Player, the film is stuttering/lagging often during scene changes. Unfortunately, the lagging is about 1 sec and significant. HD videos from .mkv work fine and the "problematic" videos run fine in DVD Player. I checked the web, but couldn't find an answer. Any help please?
I run VLC player 2.2.1 with OS X 10.9.5 on a MacBook Pro Retina.

Your hard drive probably too slow.

I have a APPLE SSD SM0256F solid-state drive (SSD) as the primary drive, which is more than enough. Also the HD videos with more data play fine.

Please upload a complete log to a service like pastebin.com and give the URL here. Then we can take a look what is going on.

Open Window -> Messages. Start playback. Pause. Click on "Save this log..." in the Messages panel. Upload the raw text to pastebin.com and give us the link
