VLC 2.2+: Snapshots with DAR, Display Aspect Ratio

I would like to take a screenshot of a video in DAR (Display Aspect Ratio). Which means the, native resolution of the film without any resizing or changing of resolution. This was the default behaviour for snapshots in VLC version 2.1.5 and below. I am currently at 2.2.1 on Mac OS X, and since 2.2+ the screenshots are resized to SAR (Storage Aspect Ratio).
Is there a way to take DAR snapshots without downgrading VLC? Thanks.

Try the PNG output.

I have encountered exactly the same problem: on Mac OS X, as of VLC 2.2+, the screenshots are resized to SAR - this is the case both with JPG and PNG output. Downgrading to 2.1.5 fixed the issue.

I have always used the PNG output. And I am not excited about downgrading for this simple task.
Also I believe this is the same issue across platforms, including Windows. But Windows users have other options for video players that can take DAR screen shots.
Does anyone know any alternatives for OS X? Although I would most happily use VLC if possible.

The AR issue should be fixed in VLC 2.2.2, you can try out a nightly build if you want to.

That's good news. Thank you so much. I will report back if I have the chance to try it out.
