Disable autoplay on OS X

Is there a way to disable autoplay of videos in a playlist? There seem to be a bunch of instructions in this forum, but the settings they refer to don't really work. The whole playlist doesn't start automatically when I open it, but the playback goes from one file to the next without breaks. I'd like it to start a video paused, not play it automatically. Any ideas?

See VLC's advanced settings (VLC -> Preferences -> Show All). There is an option to enable a feature called "play and pause" or alternatively "play and stop" if you don't to keep the last video frame displayed.

That is *almost* exactly what I need. Is there a way to have the playback stop (or not start, I guess) on the *first* frame? The play and stop just stops playback. The play and pause, pauses on the last frame. But I want the playback to switch to the next video and hold, while I have a chance to set things up.

Regrettably, no. It would be simple to implement, but we don't have that feature.

Well, it seems that this request (
ticket 2936) has been around for a long time. I'll see if I can come up with a patch for it.
