VLC 2.2.0 update not in Sparkle?

When clicking VLC - "Check for Update…" I am being told "VLC 2.1.5 is currently the newest version available". What may be the reason why VLC 2.2.0 doesn’t show up in the Sparkle updating mechanism?
In the past, I have noticed that new versions of VLC don’t show up there straight away but 2.2.0 has been out for ten days…

This is normal. We never update to .0 versions.

So, what is the reason for "we never update to .0 versions?" I don't understand the reasoning behind that, but perhaps that's because there was no actual explanation provided?

2.2.0 is a new major release. It might still be more unstable than 2.1.5. And we want to fix all issues found, before updating for all users.
