Help with audio tracks

I have some .ts video files with multiple audio streams.

VLC and other players (including my Samsung TV) default to play out the audio track listed as stream 1 in the codec information.

This would be OK but for the fact that stream 1 is the audio description track rather than the main English track.

Both VLC and my TV have options to select which track you hear of course, however...

Is there a way I can use VLC to either -

Modify the files to reassign the order of the audio streams, or

remove the audio description stream altogether?

Many thanks...

Is the audio track you want to hear of a specific language? Is your default audio language (see VLC's preferences) set that language?

I don't have language preference configured in my player.

This is the codec details panel from one of the files in question - https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B86Khq ... sp=sharing

Please disregard streams 2 3 and 4 - these are subtitles.

Ah, I see. The advanced preferences allow you to use audio track N by default. The default value is "-1" for kind-of automatic, but you can set it to any integer. See VLC-> Preferences -> "Show All" -> "Input / Codecs".

Thank you. That helps me where playing in vlc is concerned.

What I would like to do now is modify these files so that the audio pids are reordered so when I play them directly through my connected tv the English track is the default first language and not the audio description.

I know that vlc has transcoding and conversion features. Does anyone know if it is able to make such changes?

I to have encountered similar 'Audio Description' issues. In unattended situations when playing DVB off air I have noticed that in some cases the 'Audio Description' stream is listed as stream1 instead of the more usual stream2 and VLC chooses stream1 even though the PID's are xxxx for stream2 and xxxx+1 for stream1. I guess one needs a very good understanding of the standards to understand why this is but it would help greatly to understand how VLC makes the decision as to what stream it will play by default and exactly how it makes use of the 'language' setting. My problem is that the user can change channel (up/down) only and expects the 'program' audio to be played but in some cases this is not so. Yes if one knows in advance what the stream sequence will be for any given dvb channel then one can 'force' VLC to play the correct one.

'Audio Description' is becoming more common and so this issue becomes more of a problem.
