Interface is hidden when opening .mp3 files

I have a .mp3 file on my Mac. I right-click -> Open With -> VLC.
The VLC interface is hidden until I click on another app, like the Finder, then back to VLC. The interface should instead be visible immediately.
This started happening since upgrading to 2.2.0.

Is VLC already open or not, when you try that.
Works fine here. Audio might be start playing shortly before the main window comes up, but otherwise I see no issue.

VLC is NOT open when I try this.
I waited a little longer. Turns out when I "Open With -> VLC", the audio starts playing immediately (as expected). The VLC interface appears about 3 seconds later.
Is there any reason for this delay? It wasn't like this before. Videos, for instance, still appear immediately.

I have the same issue. The audio starts playing immediately, but the interface doesn't appear at all on mine, only the icon is on the dock at the bottom.

So its not the same issue. The interface should appear in any case.

You are right. It's not the same issue. So what may be the problem here if the interface does not appear at all?

I'm not sure yet what the problem might be. Try resetting preferences (with VLC 2.2).

You were right. I reset the preferences and the interface is showing right away now. Thanks!

Any reason as to why VLC takes a few seconds for the interface to appear, when only viewing audio files, but not when viewing video files? Seems like a strange issue. I could understand, like the person above, if the problem was that the interface was not appearing at all, because that would simply be a bug. But the fact that the interface is merely delayed, doesn't seem to make sense, especially when playing an audio file should be less demanding than playing a video file.

Video playback is probably delayed until the interface is fully shown, because... well, you need a window to show a video. For audio playback you do not need to show anything.
But I agree this is somehow ugly, and we will try to find a solution.

Yes but... my problem is the opposite. Video playback has no delay, but audio playback is delayed. It's the opposite of what you described.

Have you tried resetting all preferences? I tried that and I don't experience any delay anymore.

I reset all prefs within the VLC interface, and still experience a delay when playing audio files. The interface appears a second or two later. Can be annoying when I'm checking multiple mp3s for something.
