Save Change to Aspect Ratio

I'm using the current version of VLC Media Player (MAC), with Yosemite. I know how to change the Aspect Ratio of a video, but I can't find how that change can be made permanent so that I don't have to reset it each time I open the video. I've tried clicking on the desired ratio then on Lock, but that doesn't permanently change the ratio.
