I'm getting a static sound when playing video files through VLC. It seems to be VLC and not my speakers as I have tried playing the same video files in iTunes and not had the sound become distorted.

I have tried uninstalling and re-installing several times. Including deleting playlist files, emptying the recycling bin, and restarting the Mac before re-installing.

EDIT: This is with VLC 2.1.5

Have you checked audio settings?
On “Simple Preferences” interface, click “Audio” tab on the left side bar to navigate to “Audio Settings.” Make sure the “Enable audio” box is checked and then choose “Automatic” at “Output” dropdown list.
