Hello!

I have downloaded VLC, how do I install it so I can stream movies with Firefox? Anyone got a clue? Please tell! :)

Yours,
Marcus

First of all, you cannot stream anything with Firefox. You can take your own movies and stream them with VLC though ;) (have a look at the streaming-howto to see how to get that done).

If you want to receive streams with VLC through FF, you need to set it up in FF for the certain media types (Downloads -> File Types in its prefs).
Anyway, a QuickTime-like ff-plugin doesn't exist yet, but we are working on it.

but how?

Yes, that is exactly what I want to do, but when I go to the Firefox Prefs / Download / Filetypes, there is no button, or anything to add VLC? Something is wrong or how do I do this? Yes, I am lame. :)

Sorry, I should have written that a bit more accurately. You need to select a certain media or file type and click "Change Action...". It will ask you for an application to handle that kind of file. Set VLC there and it should work fine.

nothing in the action

Thats all right, however, my list is completely empty, which makes it kind of hard to change the media type. :)
Something is wrong, have I installed some of the appz wrong maybe? But it seems hard to install Firefox wrong.. well, do you have any idea?
Thanks for you quick replies!

Sorry, no idea then. I don't use FF that much and I thought that this list were created automatically, but this doesn't seem to be true then.

You might want to download "More Internet" (a system preferences plugin) then. It allows you to associate all network protocols or file types with an application of your choice. Pretty nice tool, could help here.
