I've seen the instructions for rotating a video by an arbitrary amount and I've found the rotation setting in the Preferences file. I have located the "Video Effects" window but there is no option to rotate a video by anything other than a fixed amount such as 90, 180 or 270 degrees. How do I rotate my video by, say, 30 deg? I'm on an Intel Mac with OS 10.6.8 and have version 2.1.5 of VLC

Greg, this is not a criticism; I'm intrigued by your point, and have to ask this: Why do you want to play videos at odd angles? Do you want to embed videos into presentations, for example? I'm only asking because of never having seen a video which needs anything other than flipping about vertical and/or horizontal axes, or rotating through ±90º or 180º.

Thanks.

There is no GUI on VLC for Mac to do this, sorry. This is supported on Windows and Linux.

We do the best we can, but remember this is a project done by volunteers. We do accept code contributions.
