2.1.4 issues, osx 10.9.2

Postby sotnhs » 26 Apr 2014 06:05

1. The player is buggy -- when going into the preferences and selecting the various categories, sometimes the scrolling effect will screw up the preferences window. In fact, it WILL screw it up after a few times.
2. No option to automatically save and reopen the playlist as it was when I exited VLC.
3. After years of people begging, still no "automatically play video from last position when exited" option.
4. There's way too much of a pause when stepping forward/backward. Even MplayerX doesn't do this.
5. Option to keep playlist window smaller on startup..or whatever it's called. The initial window that shows up when first starting VLC. Why would I want it to be the last size of the player before I exited? If I exit VLC in the middle of a movie, starting VLC up again, the playlist windows will be full screen. How am I going to drag and drop files like that? It should stay the size it was BEFORE I started playing the video.
6. sigh...

Well, I just started fiddling with the settings and somehow I got VLC to run like --please stay polite-- at 5 frames a second. That was fast... once again, back to mplayerx. Been trying to make vlc my default player for 5 years now. Great. I love it.

1) can you give details how to reproduce this? sounds interesting!

2) Use "Media Library" instead of "Playlist" on the left hand side of the main window

3) True indeed. On it. Sorry that it's taking so long.

4) meh, little we can do about it. Is this about local files or networking?

5) Fixed for VLC 2.2, which will be out this summer.

6) oh yes :)

Thanks for the reply.

1) All you have to do it go to the preferences. That scrolling effect that happens (or whatever its called) when you select a different tab so that the preferences window will change size according to the contents of the tab... on my machine a few times of this and it will either scroll too much or not enough to see all the options. Very weird.

4) Local files. No other player has this issue. Just saying.

1) Switching preference tabs works fine for me when using normal single clicks. However I did try double clicks which does cause and increasing amount of space to appear at the top of the tabs. So, that should probably be fixed, but make sure you're not double clicking or your mouse isn't sending multiple clicks for some reason.

5) As an alternative, go to Preferences -> Interface and deselect "Show video within the main window". This will make the playlist and video playback windows separate and thus the playlist window size is no longer dictated by the last played video size.
