VLC 2.11, Full Screen in new Desktop

Hio,
With the new VLC version, when switching to full screen, it creates a new desktop to play the video in. Now I'm used to working with many desktops at the same time, one for different kinds of tasks. In the past I often had VLC running in the second desktop in full screen, to quickly switch back and forth between the video (on the 2nd desktop) and other programs on the first desktop.
Now with the new version, in full screen mode a new desktop gets added, at the end of the lists of desktops. So now the full screen will run in the 6th desktop, rather than the 2nd, so the video is suddenly "far away" from my first desktop.

Is there a way to tell VLC to run the full screen mode in the same desktop as the windowed player was (i.e. the old behavior)? Alternatively, is there a way to tell vlc not to add the new desktop used for full time viewing at the end, but rather next to the desktop that the windowed player was in?
thanks!

Yes please. This new behaviour is driving me nuts. I have VLC usually running on the second screen with secondary things like IM popping to the front when needed. Right now that no longer works.

It looks like you are talking about the native fullscreen mode. This is the default mode now for osx Mavericks.

Please uncheck the "use native fullscreen mode" setting if you want to use the old behaviour.
