how do I save .rm streams to my HD?

Hi
I have just downloaded VLC in order to save real media .rm streams as realplayer doesn't seem to allow it. So far I've had no success - VLC reports an error when I attempt to open a stream. Can anyone help with the correct configuration?

VLC is unable to play RealMedia streams, therefore you cannot save such streams.
