Can VLC for iOS stream "VIDEO.TS" files from a server?

Our family has used AnyDVD to backup our modest collection of DVDs to one of our network workstations. One of the GREAT features of VLC for Windows is that it can play these backups directly, WITHOUT any transcoding whatsoever. Can we use VLC for iOS in the same way? {And how? (We're technology literate but new to these types of "operations.")} Thanks!

What about TS files from a DVB-S receiver like a Dreambox?
