Playback of Videos are mirrored

about a month ago vlc started playing all my videos with a mirrored image. I have deleted and reinstalled, scoured the web for information about this with no help. Hoping someone can explain how to fix this. No, this is not a fix for flipping horizontally, etc. All text in the video is backwards. I the video is playable on quicktime then the image is fine, so I know it is not the video, it must be the player.
My info:
running on a mac mini with OS 10.7.5
VLC version 2.0.8

Is this a video taken with a phone?
Did you try resetting VLC's preferences by clicking the "Reset All" button in the preferences?

open VLC Go to Tools--Effects & Filters--Video Effects- Select Geometry then unclick Transform

Another fix for this is to navigate to Tools--Effects & Filters--Video Effects--Advanced and uncheck Mirror
