Issues I've noticed with VLC 2.1.0

Here's some of the issues I've found with the recently released IOS Version
  • File transfers over FTP result in the app crashing when it completes. The transfer itself doesn't appear to be impacted.*
  • Pushing files over the web upload interface result in the app locking up once completed and needing to be killed and restarted.
  • Adding a manual FTP entry, need to omit the ftp:// from the address bar otherwise connection fails
  • Playing over FTP for me doesn't appear to be working. tcpdump shows no attempt to retrieve data when trying to play
Would be good if profiles could be saved for FTP connections too.

*reinstalled the app and seems to be more stable now - notification of file transfer completions would be nice though.

These are the bugs i've encountered with 2.1.0, using on a 4th gen iPad (iOS 6.1.3)

- almost always crashes at end of video
- hiccupy start-up where playlist shows all videos stacked over one another (not that big of a deal but didn't happen before)
- some videos that were playing during a crash are unable to play again. they either have no sound or immediately crash. again, this did not happen before.

I love VLC, but this update was buggy as hell and almost renders it unusable.

Same here: playlist shows all videos stacked over one another.
After a restart video's are seperated again, but the shown images are messed up.
Fix this please

Hello guys,

thanks a lot for your feedback.

The video stacking issue in the library is already fixed for the next update.

Crashes at the end of playback are under investigation.

Web upload issues are a bit unexpected as we didn't change the code at all. Let's check this.

@numanoids: playback over ftp: is this a password-protected server?

FTP profile saving is on my list for the next update!

Cheers!

Felix thanks very much for getting back.

Just an update with some more testing I've carried out using both my ipad 4th Gen and iPhone 4S both running 6.1.3 and two different ftp servers, vsftp on archlinux and pure-ftpd on centos and get the same behaviour on both.

Sample files played ok however larger files resulted in the screen loading the player controls but the progress bar at the top being midway and nothing else happening.

Hi Felix,

thanks for the reply and your hard work.

Just wanted to reiterate how bad the crashing is. I'm going to go ahead and say basically everything I do in VLC currently will usually result in a crash:

- crashes on launch sometimes
- crashes on deleting a video
- crashing on opening a video
- crashing on selecting airplay
- crashing on double-clicking the home button.

i've also discovered these bugs as well:

- the remaining time monitor skips around heavily on some videos
- wrong thumbnails for some videos. sometimes it'll be blank, sometimes it's another videos thumbnail

like i said before, i love VLC and am trying to do my part in helping you guys. hope these issues get fixed ASAP cos at the moment, VLC is borderline unusable for me. :-|
