vlc for ios and upnp?

I've got loads of dlna servers around on my lan. I'd like vlc for my ipad to play the videos on them.

I don't know what the syntax is for vlc to show a list of dlna servers and to connect to them.

Thanks in advance.

This is not supported by VLC for iOS at the moment. However, I implemented UPNP support for NAS devices today and intend to include this functionality in the next version, which will be submitted to Apple for review shortly.

I was overjoyed to see upnp supported in the ios version of vlc yesterday. Thanks!!!

However, I ran into 3 problems.

1. Although the upnp servers are listed, initially, selecting one just gives a blank page with the name of the server on top. No futher details are shown of the media on the server no matter how long I wait, so I'm unable to see or stream any of the resources on the server.

2. If I then go back to the main VLC screen and try again, the servers are now no longer listed. I have to restart the app to get a listing of the upnp servers again.

3. Sometimes the icon for one of the upnp servers is shown against the 'connect to ftp server' ability.

Thanks!!!

I just installed VLC on iOS too, and experience the same issues.

It's being widely advertised as officially supported since Engadget posted their article.

Is anyone able to use the UPnP function at all?

@gyrester: thanks for your reports!

1) weird, but partially expected for NAS devices which don't provide files via HTTP
2) this is, ehm, unexpected.
3) whoops, thanks!
